Before there was Boston, there was Plymouth. Visit Plimouth Plantation, which recreates life in the shortlived Puritan Colony and of the Native American Wampanoags. Take in a view of Plymouth’s harbor either high up from the Miles Standish Monument or up close by the iconic Plymouth Rock. Perhaps visit the intimate Pilgrim Hall Museum, America’s oldest continuously operating public museum. Over all, get a sense of colonial New England’s earliest days while discovering a bustling modern town with an attractive commercial district, harborside, many marinas, and historic/cultural organizations. If you visit in the autumn, don’t miss a detour to one of the area’s cranberry bogs.
Note: Mayflower II is not at its berth in Plymouth. It is under restoration at Mystic Seaport until 2019.
