You can, and many visitors do. However, although Boston is small compared to New York or London, it is not that small and its layout can be confusing, even for residents. We nickname and abbreviate many places, neglect to put signs at intersections, tuck traffic warnings behind trees, and switch directions of one-way streets.
On your own, you also may miss what is “hidden behind the curtain” even in tourist centers. Guests have exclaimed they would never have discovered many of Boston’s secrets without our help.
Yes. Popular day-out destinations are Lexington and Concord, Cape Ann, and Plymouth. Length of these outings is approximately 6-8 hours, depending on the itinerary.
There is no absolute deadline on either end. We have guests inquire as far as six months out; some contact us the day before. It depends on availability. We recommend booking as soon as you are committed to hiring Boston Tailored Tours. Bookings are accepted first-come, first-served, and are confirmed with a 50% non-refundable deposit.
We charge by the hour, whether it is drive or walking tour, and the number in the party. Please refer to the Booking page for pricing and booking details.
Before you book a tour, talk with us about your plans and to check availability, either with our contact form or by calling us at 617.972-9710.
To confirm your booking, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit. The balance is due immediately prior to your tour. We accept cash, credit cards (MC, V, Amex) and EFTs.
In Boston, we cannot count on the weather, so we try not to let it stop us, except for declared snow emergencies. On drive tours we will have the benefit of a comfortable vehicle. On walking tours we will find places to seek cover as we venture along. In either case, you will have a guide to tweak the outing, if necessary.
Of course you can! This is the essence of Boston TAILORED Tours. You get to create and revise your outing to suit your needs at any point – during the planning stage or in the moment.
Certainly! You may spend the tour anyway you wish. In fact, we factor such stops into the itinerary, and we help you keep track of the time.
Most important — Comfortable Shoes! You may be walking on uneven brick and cobblestone sidewalks. You also should be prepared for wet and/or windy weather. It is especially brisk near the Waterfront.
No. Boston Tailored Tours never combines groups. Every tour is private and customized.
You do not HAVE to customize a tour. You can simply book one of our popular suggested tours, such as the Boston Welcome Broad Overview. We will put together an itinerary that accommodates your schedule.
Yes, you may. Once you have confirmed your tour, we are happy to offer opinions and advice about your stay – your hotel choice, where to eat, and what to do.
Absolutely. The essence of Boston Tailored Tours is attentive service. We enjoy hosting visitors, such as a family or business party, who want help maximizing their time. For instance, we can help manage shopping excursions and museum visits and come up with some great spur-of-the-moment ideas.
Maryglenn, I wanted you to know how thrilled we all were with your wonderful tour of Boston on the 23rd. It was everything and so much more than we had hoped. My folks are still talking about it and [Bostonian] Andrew has continued to remark on how much of Boston you showed us that even he had never seen. Your depth of knowledge and obvious fondness for the city were apparent yet we never felt as if we were attending a lecture but having a conversation. Bravo! Best wishes,
